Center Description

The “Moriggia-Pelascini” Hospital of Gravedona ed Uniti became the area's general hospital in 1974, and with the creation of specialist units such as neurosurgery, cardiology, hemodynamics, vascular surgery, and intensive therapy/CICU. It became a first-level Emergency and Admissions Department in 2010.

In 2013, complex specialized rehabilitation services were added, with the creation of the Rehabilitation Department for Parkinson's Disease and Severe Acquired Brain Injury, which comprises the Stroke Unit, Neurophysiology service, and Neuropsychology service.

Of the 120 beds belonging to the Department, 56 are dedicated to the rehabilitative hospitalization of patients suffering from Parkinson's disease or parkinsonisms (progressive supranuclear palsy, multiple system atrophy, and dystonias) and each year it is accessed by an average of 600 patients.

Three outpatient clinics are reserved for patients with Parkinson's disease or movement disorders each week.

Department Director and Staff

The director of the Department is Dr. Giuseppe Frazzitta, who earned his degree in Medicine and Surgery and specialized in Neurology at the University of Pavia. His interests in the field of medical research for Parkinson's disease are: the physiopathology of gait and balance impairments; the efficacy of rehabilitation on motor symptoms and on patients' quality of life; brain plasticity and strategies for improving motor learning; and neuropsychological and nutritional aspects.
